Reverse Salt Flux Effect on Dewatering Chlorella vulgaris in a Forward Osmosis System

چکیده
Microalgae shows a high potential to produce biofuel and forward osmosis (FO) has been proposed as promising dewatering process for algal biomass separation from water. However, the effect of reverse salt flux (RSF) on during using FO not completely explored. This study was investigate different types their concentrations in terms conductivity, settling velocity, lipid contents FS simulated FO-driven Chlorella vulgaris microalgae. Three draw solution (DS) salts (NaCl, KCl NH4Cl) were evaluated RSF-simulating batch tests. The diffusion DS feed (FS) caused static growth while increasing content up 14.8% at 8 mM NH4Cl. With addition salts, pH maintained optimal thriving range (7.2–10.6), but presence stressed cells inhibited photosynthesis within experimental conditions. velocity improved with increase 80 each DS. It seemed that cell division could be accelerated NH4Cl, microscopic images showed change size distribution, which may negatively affect settleability. an FO-algal harvesting system should selected based final properties constituents required.

Forward Osmosis as a Pre-treatment to Reverse Osmosis
This paper presents some aspects of forward osmosis coupled with reverse osmosis using a recirculating draw solution, to produce desalinated water or for dewatering/concentrating a feed stream, with some data provided from a number of operational sites. Many of these aspects are applicable to other osmotic processes and provide an insight into where they may be appropriately considered. A compa...
متن کاملEffect of Organoclay on the Performance of Reverse Osmosis Membrane
This study investigated the effect of Cloisite15A (C15A) organoclay in the substrate layer on the performance of reverse osmosis (RO) membranes. The substrate of the RO membranes was modified using different loading of C15A (ranging from 0.3 - 0.7 wt%) within polysulfone (PSf) substrate and the polyamide (PA) selective layer was formed on the top. Effect of the modified substrate layer on the w...
متن کاملRotating reverse osmosis: a dynamic model for flux and rejection.
Reverse osmosis (RO) is a compact process for the removal of ionic and organic pollutants from contaminated water. However, flux decline and rejection deterioration due to concentration polarization and membrane fouling hinders the application of RO technology. In this study, a rotating cylindrical RO membrane is theoretically investigated as a novel method to reduce polarization and fouling. A...
متن کاملThe Effect of Osmotic Dehydration on Reverse Osmosis Membrane Performance
Akin type (asymmetric) reverse osmosis membranes undergo an irreversible osmotic dehydration upon coming into contact (skin side) with salt solutions. The extent of consequent changes (in appearance; decrease in linear dimension, water flux and salt rejection) are dependent on the salt concentration. These observations are correlated with the expected morphological changes taking place duri...
متن کاملRadionuclides and heavy elements in a water deposits of Reverse Osmosis system filters in Iraqi houses
Introduction: In this study, we investigated contaminants in sediments of reverse osmosis water systems in Iraqi households. These filters are imported from the US and Taiwan and are available in the Iraqi market. The rate of environmental pollutions in residues of the water filters was examined by measuring alpha particles emission rates and the concentration of heavy metals. Material and Met...
